Some years ago I have seen the translations of this poem on the site on the Serbian National Library, in five languages. Not speaking French and Russian, I red the rest. I found the German translation very beautiful, but have been less enthusiastic about the English one.

So I set myself the task of translating the poem to English. It took some time, and I was beginning to realize that the rather documentary poem, actually describing the events, would still not be readily understandable without some comments and a historical frame. So i wrote these, too, and created a visual background with an emotional or factual relevance to the verse, as well.

Pre nekoliko godina sam video prevode ove pesme na sajtu Narodne biblioteke Srbije, na pet jezika. Ne znajuci francuski i ruski, procitao sam ostale. Nemački prevod mi se veoma dopao, ali sam engleskim prevodom bio manje oduševljen.

Tako sam stavio sebi u zadatak da prevedem pesmu na engleski. To je potrajalo i poceo sam da shvatam da ova prilično dokumentarna pesma, koja zapravo opisuje događaje, jos uvek neće biti neposredno razumljiva bez izvesnih komentara i istorijskog okvira. Tako sam napisao i to, a uz to načinio i vizuelnu pozadinu, emocionalno ili činjenicno relevantnu stihovima.

Vor einigen Jahren habe ich die Übersetzungen dieses Gedichts auf der Website der Serbischen Nationalbibliothek gesehen, in fünf Sprachen. Französisch und Russisch nicht sprechend, lies ich das Rest. Ich fand die deutsche Übersetzung sehr schön, aber ich war weniger begeistert mit der englischen.

Also, da habe ich mir die Aufgabe gesetzt, das Gedicht auf Englisch zu übersetzen. Es dauerte einige Zeit, und ich begann zu begreifen, dass das eher dokumentarische Gedicht, das eigentlich die Ereignisse beschreibt, immer noch nicht leicht verständlich würde, ohne einigen Kommentaren und einem historischen Rahmen. Also, da habe ich auch die geschrieben, und auch einen visuellen Hintergrund erstellt mit einer emotionalen oder tätsachlichen Relevanz für den Vers.
